Nicola Hood

Where We're At...

Nicola creates abstract prints made up of many layers. She explores different colour palettes, often starting from a basic shape and design and then layering with hand drawn patterns, mark making and found imagery. She has no fixed starting point and works intuitively, attempting to create paintings through the process of screen printing.

The prints explore throw backs to different decades of fashion and interior design with colour blocking through to today. A bit of a magpie, Nicola is always on the lookout for new ideas and palettes that push her to experiment with new colours. She finds herself constantly snapping photos of people’s dress and murals from her travels. The streets provide constant inspiration for her artwork.

Nicola is now experimenting with water-based inks which have a matt finish and a different surface character, to create dense blocks of colour and many layers of transparency. No print is the same, they are all one-offs.
